Thrivent Financial, The Sioux City Explorers and Support Siouxland Soldiers joined forces during the July 3rd Explorer’s baseball game to raise awareness and monetary donations for Siouxland Veterans in need.
During the game Thrivent Financial presented Support Siouxland Soldiers with a check on the field; the Explorer’s auctioned off camouflaged jerseys and the fans took up a collection to assist Siouxland Veterans with food and personal care items. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, the Marina Inn, Luciano’s and other anonymous donors provided gift baskets to be raffled off. Together over $9,500 was raised for Support Siouxland Soldiers. The evening wrapped up with an incredible win over Sioux Falls and post-game fireworks show by Lantis Fireworks.
Thrivent Financial and the Sioux City Explorer’s have raised over $63,000 over the course of six years to support Siouxland Veterans, Service Members and Military families. Support Siouxland Soldiers provides free meals, groceries, care-packages, housing assistance and emergency financial assistance to Siouxland Veterans.

Support Siouxland Soldiers is a community non-profit (501c3) organization whose mission is to support members of the Armed Forces, past and present, their families and the Siouxland community. The primary means of our mission is to send packages to deployed military personnel and partnering with Siouxland businesses, schools, churches and organizations to bring support to the four thousand – plus members of the Armed Forces and military families of the Siouxland area.
Close to 3,000 Iowa National Guard soldiers are serving our country in Afghanistan as we speak. And once again, their friends and families are back at it packing boxes full of love and supporting each other in the process.
Military families gathered at the National Guard Armory in Sioux City with one goal in mind: To send their loved ones overseas a reminder of how much they’re missed. From sweet treats to personal care products. Everything inside was packed with love and care.
“It makes me feel like I’m supporting his efforts while he’s oversees and then when he gets the box it’s like a little piece from home that reminds him that there are people at home that care about him,” said Susane Kabisch, the wife of a soldier.
“I want him to think of us and how great of a family we are,” said Mason Mackey, who’s brother is in Afghanistan.
While this event produced boxes of support for our soldiers, it also served as a support system for families right here in Siouxland.
“When we come to events like this where there are other family members who are going though the same things that we are during the deployment it’s very comforting and uplifting to come together and work for the common good,” said Kabisch.
Showing that a little can travel far and keep loved one’s close to heart.
