News Coverage at the Care-pack

The support for Siouxland troops is ongoing.  Those with loved ones deployed overseas boxed up care packages Monday night.

Support Siouxland Soldiers teamed with the 185th Air Refueling Wing to fill about 60 boxes with food, hygiene items, and cards.

“They are away from home, they are away from family and friends. And this is a way for the Siouxland community to let them know that we thank them for their service and they haven’t been forgotten,” said  Support Siouxland Soldiers.

The boxes will be shipped all over the world, but most of the area troops are in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Support Siouxland Soldiers sends packages every month until that service member returns home.

All the items are donated.

Heroes On the Homefront Award!

Support Siouxland Soldiers presents Joe Fokken, store manager of Cubby’s Convenience Store (Cenex Station) in Sioux City, IA, with a 2012 Heroes on the Homefront Award. Joe and his team at Cubby’s Cenex Station received this award in recognition for their outstanding support of the Tri-state Region’s Service Members during their military duty and deployments.  Support Siouxland Soldiers thanked Joe for his countless hours of hard work and donations to support the Troops and their families. Over the years Joe and Cubby’s  have donated an abundance of snacks and items to be included in the Soldiers care-packages. On Armed Forces Day, Cubby’s Cenex Station hosted a care-packing event with Support Siouxland Soldiers and invited Military families and the public to come and customize care-packages for the deployed Siouxland Service Members. Cenex donated ten $50 gas cards to be raffled off with the proceeds covering the cost to ship the boxes. Joe also partnered with Pepsi and Bimbo Bakeries to make this event a great success!  So on behalf of all of the Military Families in the region, Support Siouxland Soldiers wants to say “Thank you, Joe Fokken and Cubby’s Cenex Station for being our Heroes on the Homefront!”

Military Families Pack Boxes For Soldiers – News, Weather and Sports for Sioux City, IA:

Military Families Pack Boxes For Soldiers – News, Weather and Sports for Sioux City, IA:

Close to 3,000 Iowa National Guard soldiers are serving our country in Afghanistan as we speak. And once again, their friends and families are back at it packing boxes full of love and supporting each other in the process.

Military families gathered at the National Guard Armory in Sioux City with one goal in mind: To send their loved ones overseas a reminder of how much they’re missed. From sweet treats to personal care products. Everything inside was packed with love and care.

“It makes me feel like I’m supporting his efforts while he’s oversees and then when he gets the box it’s like a little piece from home that reminds him that there are people at home that care about him,” said Susane Kabisch, the wife of a soldier.

“I want him to think of us and how great of a family we are,” said Mason Mackey, who’s brother is in Afghanistan.

While this event produced boxes of support for our soldiers, it also served as a support system for families right here in Siouxland.

“When we come to events like this where there are other family members who are going though the same things that we are during the deployment it’s very comforting and uplifting to come together and work for the common good,” said Kabisch.

Showing that a little can travel far and keep loved one’s close to heart.
