Love Me When I’m Gone

Support Siouxland Soldiers recently received gifts of appreciation from a Special Forces Soldier who was a past recipient of one of our Emergency Financial Assistance grants. It is an honor for us to be able to give back and assist those who have given so much to serve our Country. The gifts received include a pin from the Special Forces unit and a very special book. The book, Love Me When I’m Gone, was written by a fellow comrade, Robert Patrick Lewis,  and is a true story of life, love and loss for a Green Beret in the Post 9/11 wars. Proceeds from the book support national non-profits that help military families and provide scholarships for military children. You can learn more and purchase your own copy at

Thanks to the generosity of the Siouxland Community and Thrivent Financial Members, Support Siouxland Soldiers is able to issue small $300 grants to injured Veterans who are experiencing a financial emergency. This grant can alleviate immediate financial needs while the Veteran waits for approval from a larger grant or financial assistance. We work with the National Guard, Red Cross and other Veterans Assistance agencies to make sure that our local Veterans are aware of the assistance available to them. The applications are reviewed by the board of directors and issued within 72 hours of the application submission. Many of our beneficiaries have young children at home and this grant has helped make sure there is food on the table, a roof over their head, running water or a working vehicle. Over the last year and a half we have issued over $5,000 in assistance to our Siouxland Veterans in need. For more information about this service, please visit our Fallen Fund.

Thank you to all of our Veterans who have served and sacrificed for our Country! Your gifts of freedom will never be forgotten.
